Rotary Makeover Project

Day 1 of our Makeover Project with A Sense of Home: total success!
More than a dozen Rotarians braved the rain to build furniture and coordinate the decor for our makeover recipient! With a goal to create a space that is not only cozy, but also has a modern boho vibe, the design team was pleased with the pieces they pulled and hope our recipient loves the selection.
The build team worked equally as hard to put together as many pieces of furniture as possible in two hours, and their teamwork really shined.
For part 2 of our Makeover Project, members gathered at Common Space Brewery to wrap presents for our family. The gifts were generously purchased by our club members, and we hope the items--wrapped in special Rotary holiday paper (thanks, President Nicole!)--bring lots of joy.
For day 3 of our Makeover Project, we made a home!
In November, we joined with former home creation recipients and ASOH and transformed an empty apartment into a family’s first home as part of our 2025 Makeover Project.
Volunteers helped put up curtains, hang paintings, carry furniture, and find the perfect location for every item of decor.
It was hard not to become emotional when our recipient shared what this experience has meant to her and her son—safety, a fresh start, peace, joy, and, a sense of home.
As we headed into the holidays, we were so grateful for our members, our community, and our nonprofit partners like A Sense of Home!
A special thank you to our sponsors Drollinger Family Charitable Foundation and the Hannon Foundation; Warren for leading the project, and our President Nicole for keeping us inspired!

We're proud to partner with A Sense of Home for our 2025 Makeover Project!
A Sense of Home strives to prevent homelessness by creating first-ever homes and a community for youth aging out of foster care.
As part of their "Welcome Home Program," our club and ASOH will work to create a physical home that is the embodiment of the dreams and unique personality of our recipient to transform their experience of scarcity to one of comfort and care. Empty walls, floors, and rooms will be transformed into a fully-furnished, functional, and beautiful home by our club members! And of course, we have a few surprises in store!

Since 2006, the Rotary Club of Westchester has undertaken a Home Makeover project approximately every two years to benefit a deserving family or neighborhood organization in our community. The Rotary Makeover Project is truly one of those special projects that not only brings the community together but also makes a meaningful difference in the lives of families it benefits. The Rotary Club of Westchester is planning another Makeover project for 2027.
While we have initially focused on a single-family facing challenges and sought to improve their lives by making over their home, we have found that we can impact the lives of even more people by working to make over some key sites that serve our community.
- In 2015, we had success in our efforts to improve the lives of hundreds of seniors who call the Westchester Senior Center “home”
- In 2017, we helped scores of homeless young people at the Safe Place for Youth
- In 2019, we were able to impact scores of community organizations, from performance groups and Scouts, by improving the facilities of the Westchester Townhouse
- In 2021, we enhanced the Emerson Avenue Community Garden at Orville Wright Middle School that serves hundreds of local residents.
- In 2023, we made major upgrades at St. Margaret's Center to make spaces for their clients more welcoming and comfortable.
